Arcanum Alloys’ first product, Optiform® was designed to provide scrap reduction, minimize press set up time, and provide capacity increases to manufacturers who used stainless steel sheet. A byproduct of the development of this material was the ability to tailor the corrosion resistance and formability of the material. The material is frequently used in commercial goods such as appliances, but provides value in any market where forming of stainless sheet is needed. Optiform has been run on press lines previously only capable of forming low carbon steel, and its use improves asset values substantially. Optiform has been welded using ER308 and other similar welding rods with great success, particularly in maintaining the stainless character of the surface.
Arcanum Alloys is currently developing electrical steels for motor, generator, and transformer applications, amongst others. Surface Optimized Diffusion Alloy (SODA) steels can be tailored to provide combinations of permeability, core-loss, and mechanical properties not seen in traditional electrical steels. SODA technology enables Arcanum Alloys to produce high-performance electrical steels without the specialty casting and rolling equipment that is typically required for these grades.
Where it is typically impossible or exceedingly difficult to roll high-alloyed steels to foils, Arcanum Alloys’ SODA technology can produce foils and light-gauge strip in a wide variety of compositions. These compositions can enable excellent performance in high-temperature oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance, low contact resistance, and formability.
